I revisited the viral video that circulated yesterday showing a heavily armed group on motorcycles passing through a police checkpoint a Social media analyst disclosed.

Following the Nigeria Police's clarification that the individuals in the video were not bandits but members of a northern vigilante group, I took a closer look at the weapons, ammunition, and appearance of those involved.

Based on what was visible in the footage, the level of weaponry displayed appeared quite sophisticated for a vigilante outfit. If these individuals are indeed vigilantes as stated by the police, then one would expect their presence to contribute meaningfully to tackling insecurity and restoring peace in the region.

However, the broader issue remains the growing insecurity across the country. Nigerians must be honest with themselves about the challenges we face. No individual, regardless of status or position, is completely insulated from the effects of insecurity. Recent incidents involving prominent figures in the North serve as a stark reminder of this reality.
